Bio

Joseph McClay is currently a tenured associate professor at the VCU School of Pharmacy. He also serves as the vice-chair for graduate studies and the graduate program director for the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Outcomes Science. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics at VCU before joining the VCU School of Pharmacy for a second postdoc in pharmacogenetics. He was research assistant professor at the Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine at the VCU School of Pharmacy prior to establishing his own lab. He has published approximately 70 research papers and has been the recipient of several grants from federal agencies (e.g. National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense) and private foundations.
