Joseph L. McClay

Joseph McClay studied for his Bachelor’s degree in Genetics at the University of York, England, including a year placement at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, England. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics at VCU before joining the School of Pharmacy for a second postdoc in psychiatric pharmacogenetics. He was made Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Biomarker Research and Personalized Medicine in 2008 and Laboratory Director in 2009. In 2015 he was made tenure track Assistant Professor, Clinical and Translational Scientist, in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Outcomes Science. He has published over 50 research papers (h-index = 22), received a 2009 Young Investigator Award from NARSAD (a mental health charity) and has been the recipient of funding from the National Institute of Mental Health.
